Venue Shopping: Prairie Production
Starting my search for a wedding venue in Chicago, our first stop was Prairie Production on Raldolph. I had been emailing Kristen for the last week asking her questions and one of the things that I love about them is their prompt answers.
I know the area well since we lived nearby for a while so there were no surprises here. I can see it being confusing for guests that have never been to this area. There's also no designated parking lot so guests would have to park along the streets (although they say that it's very free at night).
The rental fees for the space is: Saturday $5,000 Sunday $4,000 and Friday $4,500. This is the bare rental fee and other than the space, includes the white paper lanterns and some speakers. There is a small prep area for your caterers with a sink and fridge and there are 3 bathrooms. You'll get the space from 9am to midnight (although let them know if you're arriving earlier so they don't show the space to potential clients). After midnight would be $500/hour. I believe you need half of the rental fee to hold the date and the final payment is due 30 days prior to the event.
The courtyard in the front can be used for the ceremony although anyone walking by can peek in and some very loud trains can pass by if you don't time it well. If weather is bad, you would have a Plan B to move it inside.
The space inside is about 3500 sq ft. They claim that you can comfortably fit 200 guests in here with a dance floor. Reviews on yelp have ranged from only 120-150 guests to be comfortable.
Everything has to be worked out with outside vendors so you can either spend/save a lot of money this way. You'll have to work with outside vendors for your tables, chairs, linens, silverware, servers, food, alcohol, servers, flowers...etc.
All in all, if the space was a bit bigger and there was a designated parking lot, we would consider having the wedding here. Kristen and Michael are lovely people and very helpful.
