Scan Your Marriage License
I gave my friend this advice so I might as well put it out there.
Scan your signed marriage license before mailing it!
You just got married so the last thing on your mind is doing more work but trust me, scan your marriage license before you mail it off to the city. For a normal job, you get 30 days after getting married to make changes (such as switching to your spouse's insurance plan). In order to do that, you need a scanned copy of your marriage license (filled out) or your marriage certificate. Even if you mailed your marriage license immediately after the wedding, it could take up to a week for the city to receive it... then who knows how long for them to process it... and then maybe a week for them to mail it back to you.
If you're unfortunate like us, you'll find out from the city that no one mailed it at all. And you'll start hunting back and forth between the officiant and the Day of Coordinator to figure out who had it last...
Save yourself the anxiety and trouble and just scan a copy of the license before you mail it.
